NYSSMA Festivals Happening:
NYSSMA, the New York State School Music Association holds adjudication festivals for solo instruments every spring. Students from 5th-12th grade are eligible.
We work in conjunction with their school music teacher, who will register them into the festival. Each student will prepare a piece on their instrument, plus sight reading/ singing& are graded for all areas of their performance.
It is strictly the student competing with themselves. It provides an opportunity to take performance to the next level, prepare for something and produce a result; this will serve as preparation for realizing dreams in any area of life. That’s where it aligns with our vision of 2007 being the year of Dreams. If your child is interested let us know, so we can have their teacher start preparing them. If they need an accompanist, please let us know that at the same time, & we will provide one.
The area festival dates are as follows:
Putnam County - April 20-21/2007
Down-County - Hastings/Ardsley - April 20 & 21, 2007
Up-County – Yorktown - May 11 & 12, 2007

Letters from a Young Performer
My Experience on Broadway
By Carly Rose Sonenclar
Age 7
I am now in Les Misérables on Broadway. I play Young Cosette. I love it. I share the role with two other girls so I am not Cosette all the time but I still have to be there for eight shows a week.
It is not easy. I have to leave school early on Wednesdays for the matinee. I have to eat my lunch and sometimes dinner on the train. I have to do my homework on the train too. I get home very late and it is hard to wake up for school in the morning. That is the worst part.
But it is worth it because I love it. I love working with all the great actors. We are all like one big family.
I especially love the matinees when I can stay for curtain calls and I sign autographs! It is so cool!
