KPMS Notes
April 2007
Notes from the Director:
Dear Studio:
April is upon us with Spring Breaks and performances beginning to emerge just like the Spring flowers.
This issue is jammed packed with news such as the upcoming concerts and the exciting WOR Radio’s shining Star Contest. Also in the news are the dates for the KPMS Westchester/CT Spring Studio Concerts. We don’t call them recitals (read Below)
Also included in this issue are casting notices for Random Farms Kids Theater workshops, dates for the 2007 NYSSMA festivals and even the new address of our office.
As a reminder the studio policy for missed lesson whether by student or teacher is to create a make-up. Given there are only 10 weeks more to the Spring semester, I invite you to speak with your teachers about getting all outstanding make-ups scheduled sooner rather than later.
As always feel free to contact our office with any questions, concerns or ideas. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ALL KPMS CALENDAR EVENTS can be found with directions, times, etc. on our website, www.kilroyproductions.com.
Until next time,
Jerry

KPMS announces two Spring concerts
Given that 2007 has been dubbed the year of Dreams. We are committed that everyone associated with Kilroy Productions Music Studios doubles the value they get out of their participation. Having said that, we have created two performance opportunities, one for the Kilroy Kidz & the other for everyone in the studio. The latter is even a chance for children to help children.
The first will be Friday, May 4, 4:30PM at the Mt. Kisco Day Care Center. It will feature the Kilroy Kidz Performing Ensemble and all students are invited to attend and support these young musicians stretching their performing muscles.
The Second concert will be the 1st Annual Kilroy Faculty Charity Benefit Concert, Sunday, May 20 at 3PM, location TBA. The concert will benefit Cherish our Children International (www.cherishourchildren.org ). In an exciting new addition to our programming the KPMS Faculty (all performing artists in their own right) will perform in concert with special guest appearances by the students of KPMS. Any and all students of the studio are encouraged to participate and there are two ways for them take part. They can either perform, or be on the production team.
If your child is interested in making a difference with Kids Helping Kids, please contact the office or your teacher at once.
KPMS announces the WOR Shining Star Contest:
This Spring marks the 2nd year of participation for KPMS with this contest. Last year we entered two students in it, Stephanie Corvino and Hillary Ginsburg. Stephanie’s song was heard on WOR with wonderful accolades by the announcers. If your child is a singer and would like to take part in this contest, please let your teacher know, and we will prepare them for the contest (read below).

Spring Recitals Concerts 2007:
The Westchester Studio Concerts will be the June 19 & 21, at the Katonah Village Library. And with 2007 dubbed the Year of Dreams we are going to be taking performance to the next level. We will be calling them concerts. The faculty will join students on stage as performers; it will be a gala event!! Watch for emails & the next issue for more information.
The Random Farms Kids Theater is seeking 2nd-8th graders:
…to participate in its May/June production of the musical Babes In Toyland. Rehearsals are in Tarrytown (Saturdays and Sundays - choose from several different time options) and the show is at The Tarrytown Music Hall. This class musical revolves around many famous storybook characters (Little Red Riding Hook, Goldilocks, Raggedy Ann and Andy, etc.) as well as a plot involving the evil Barnaby, his dopey Assistant and the Master Toymaker. This is only a one month commitment (mid-May to mid-June) and the final performance happens before school lets out. Everyone in the show will have a speaking role and solo! For more information, visit www.randomfarms.com/workshop4.html.
Coda Notes:
For all of you working with your teachers to regulate, institute or inspire practicing in your home between lessons, this is a must read:
Practice This by Vadim Ghin
The following 4 points will help make the most of each practice session and quickly improve your playing:
1. Pay attention while practicing. Though obvious, this is not an easy thing to do consistently.
2. Practice small sections. Work on a measure or two at time; don’t just play the piece from beginning to end.
3. Practicing means repeating. Don’t only repeat until it’s correct, repeat until it’s correct 3 or 4 times in a row!
4. Practice often and practice right. Make practicing part of your daily routine - twenty minutes every day is better than an hour twice a week.
NYSSMA is around the Corner:
The NYSSMA Festivals will take place in May 2007. WE are busy preparing students for their adjudication. IF your child is planning on participating and you need assistance please contact us ASAP. Accompanists & ear training/sight reading support can be provided. Also please check our website www.kilroyproductions.com under musical resources for links to web pages for ear training/sight-reading testing.
