KPMS Announces the
Open House Project:
The main difference between a performing art & visual or other kind of art is that there is only one way to get better at performing: Perform, in front of people. There is also another way to grow & develop as a performing artist, that is to share with others what you have gotten from the work with your teacher & in our case the KPMS studio.
Given that, we are offering a new opportunity for both reasons. It is called The Open House Project. Here is what it is. We invite you to host an open house in the privacy of your home, have your friends & family there as well as those invited by other families in the studio. The parents and children attending will get treated to a short performance by a few KPMS students (including your child) & all the information they need to choose whether KPMS is the right place for their family’s musical education. It promises intimacy, the chance to broaden your community of friends & family specifically around music & the opportunity for the young musicians to share the ground they’ve taken.
We will be starting with two in Chappaqua. You are invited to invite people or host one in your community.
If you are interested in hosting an open house, or inviting people in your communities to one, please contact us at 917-533-7464.
Kilroy Kidz to host Benefit Concert:
Kilroy Kidz will host its third annual fundraising benefit concert to raise money for the children around the world in dire circumstances.
Sunday October 28, 2007, 6:30PM at the Tarrytown Music Hall 13 Main Street, Tarrytown, NY.
This is the preeminent benefit concert of our year with over 70 young artists from all the performing art forms and the worlds of Broadway, film, television & regional stages.
Along with shining on stage, each performer has agreed to collect a minimum of $200 in sponsorships (like walk-a-thon sponsorships). This way the performers get to own this project & make a difference both on the stage & off.
We invite each & every student to play with us & be an usher or stage crew & collect sponsorships even if you are not performing. This is an opportunity to be a part of a group of young artists making a difference. Please contact the office if you are interested.
Cherish our Children International, a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to develop and fund projects and programs that provide a brighter future for the world's most vulnerable children. We promote nurturing alternatives to harmful institutional settings and prevent the abandonment of children.
KPMS Welcomes New Teaching Artists to our Roster of Brilliant Teachers:
We are honored & pleased to introduce you to a new extraordinary teacher who teaches a coterie of instruments equally well.
Hugh Wilson (Voice & Guitar teacher) From a semi-nomadic childhood in the Australian desert, to winning Australia’s Star Search & touring with Lenny Kravitz, Hugh Wilson still covers the territory, with what a critic called "the voice of an angel"
Hugh spent his early years moving between remote parts of Australia before moving to Sydney. Hugh learned the trumpet, sang boy-soprano in church choirs, and shockingly for an Australian, chose singing in a school musical over
state track meets.
At 19, Hugh won the male vocal category of "Star Search", in Australia a nationally televised viewer-voted talent competition. Hugh recorded “Iliad,” a critically praised debut on Polydor Records, followed by "The Blue Phoenix", "Drowning Jester", and "King Luan"; as well as recording "Gnome" with jazz saxophonist Spike Mason. Hugh later teamed up with the Leigh brothers & enjoyed a brief stay in the Australian charts.
Alongside all this Hugh can e heard singing, literally hundreds of Australian and Asian commercials.
In 2005-06 Hugh joined Lenny Kravitz's band as a vocalist for a US tour with Aerosmith.
