KPMS Announces an Open House Project:
The Open House Project is the opportunity to pay it forward!
If you have enjoyed the music education & performance opportunities KPMS offers, you can pass it along to your friends & family & invite them
to attend an Open House to
see if KPMS is the right musical
fit for them.
Our next Open House Project scheduled and ready for you to invite your friends to. The people in your life, schools, carpools, sports teams, religious school classes, even commuter buddies. Invite them, & their children. We are especially interested in children who are looking for a change in their musical education or are interested in starting lessons.
It will be an informal meeting at home of Bonnie & Doug Weill, 10 Nancy Lance, Chappaqua, NY 10514. There will be performances by a few KPMS students, including a Kilroy Kid or two. There will be a short DVD of past performances & materials about who we are, & what we offer. There will even be an opportunity for them sign-up for lessons if that interests them or their children.
In short they will get all the information they need to choose whether KPMS is the right place for their family’s musical education.
We promise
o intimacy
o the chance to broaden your community of friends & family specifically around music
o the opportunity for the young musicians to share the ground they’ve taken.
Watch your email for the evite to forward to the people in your life.

Winter/Spring Semester billing as of January 1, 2008:
We are offering the pre-paid semester program again as well as the month-to-month billing. There is a discount with the pre-paid semester billing. Please respond by January 8.
NYSSMA Festivals Happening:
NYSSMA, the New York State School Music Association holds adjudication festivals for solo instruments & vocalists every spring. Students from 5th-12th grade are eligible.
We work in conjunction with their school music teacher, who will register them into the festival. Each student will prepare a piece on their instrument, plus sight reading/singing & are graded for all areas of their performance.
It is strictly the student competing with themselves. It provides an opportunity to take performance to the next level, prepare for something and produce a result; this will serve as preparation for emerging artists. That’s where it aligns with our vision of 2008 being the year of the Emerging Artist, with focus, growth & development. If your child is interested let us know, so we can have their teacher start preparing them. If they need an accompanist, please let us know that at the same time, & we will provide one.
The area festival dates are as follows:
Putnam County - April 20-21/2007
Down-County – Pelham HS - May 16 & 17, 2008
Up-County – Yorktown HS- May 09 & 10, 2008
CT – go to www.cmea.org
NYC - dates TBA

The 2nd Annual KPMS Playoff-
What is The 2nd Annual KPMS Playoff-BEATLEMANIA!
It is an occasion for your child to learn that they can make a difference in the world with their talents, deepen their performacne experience & join a community of children helping children around the world.
After the huge success of our studio-wide charity fundraising event last year, we are planning the 2nd annual KPMS Playoff.
This exciting, fun & expanding event features the immensely talented working artists of our faculty with special guest appearances by the student of KPMS, all playing songs from the Beatles canon.
It will benefit Cherish our Children International again (www.cherishourchildren.org). COCI’s mission is to develop and fund projects and programs that provide a brighter future for the world's most vulnerable children.
Each student who participates will perform in an ensemble of 2 or more made up of other students & at least one faculty member. There will be one or two rehearsals involved for all those who perform as well.
Please RSVP to jfishman@kilroyproductions.com by March 31 if your child would like to participate. Your teachers will have information about this event as well.
Coda Notes:
Staying in line with 2008-the Year of the Emerging Artist, we are hard at work creating a program to keep the excitement alive & the focus increased. It is the biggest challenge for the teachers, parents & students alike.
For all of you working with your teachers to regulate, institute or inspire practicing in your home between lessons, this is the first in a two-part installment.
Next month this column will feature information on our new incentive program to keep the young student engaged.
This piece is a re-print but a definite must read:
Practice This by Vadim Ghin
The following 4 points will help make the most of each practice session and quickly improve your playing:
1. Pay attention while practicing. Though obvious, this is not an easy thing to do consistently.
2. Practice small sections. Work on a measure or two at time; don’t just play the piece from beginning to end.
3. Practicing means repeating. Don’t only repeat until it’s correct, repeat until its correct 3 or 4 times in a row!
4. Practice often and practice right. Make practicing part of your daily routine - twenty minutes every day is better than an hour twice a week.
Kilroy Kidz Auditions rescheduled:
The Kilroy Kidz auditions set for January 6 have been rescheduled for late February. We will send out notices for the times, as well as list them in the February Newsletter.
