Coda Notes:
Keeping the fire of desire burning while instilling a practice discipline can be a touchy business. In our mission: To encourage, empower & mentor young artists in creating & developing a love for music, we are committed to continue to inquire into new ways to support our young musicians/your children in growing in technique & passion for music. This furthers our work in 2008: The Year of the Emerging Artist.
This is the second part of a two-part installment on practicing.
Kilroy Kash $ $ =i-tunes songs
We are establishing a new program called Kilroy Kash to bring a new level of connection between our teachers & students. It will serve as an opportunity to encourage the students in practicing with a reward of music.
The premise is that with a goal & encouragement; we can both create an environment of learning, music & fun.
For those parents engaged in this program, we will be assessing a $25 per semester materials fee. The fee will go toward a $25 I-tunes card that can be redeemed a dollar a week by the students for work well done. Extra Kilroy Kash can be given weekly for exemplary work, and conversely not given for work not done. The goal for the student is to purchase $25 worth of I-tunes music. We will encourage students to purchase music of varying genres & styles. It will instill the practice of supporting artists they like by purchasing their music. It will also create a life-long exercise of exploring music & hopefully deepen their connection. Lastly, our aim is to have them being to appreciate the art form, and how they relate to it in their lives.
Please contact the office if you do not want to be a part of this program. 917-533-7464.
2008 NYSSMA Festival:
Reminder:
NYSSMA, the New York State School Music Association holds adjudication festivals for solo instruments every spring. Students from 5th-12th grade are eligible.
We work in conjunction with their school music teacher, who will register them into the festival. Each student will prepare a piece on their instrument, plus sight reading/ singing& are graded for all areas of their performance.
It is strictly the student competing with themselves. It provides an opportunity to take performance to the next level, prepare for something and produce a result; this will serve as preparation for realizing dreams in any area of life. That’s where it aligns with our vision of 2007 being the year of Dreams. If your child is interested let us know, so we can have their teacher start preparing them. If they need an accompanist, please let us know that at the same time, & we will provide one.
The KPMS Composition & Recording Workshop Slated:
Back by popular demand, the KPMS composition & recording workshop is the playground where orignial songs get written, lyrics get penned & arranging gets honed. It is craft at its best. Led this year by recording artist , guitar & voice teacher Hugh Wilson. Hugh’s resume is packed with orignal recordings and a record label.
Students will learn the craft of songwrigiiting, lyric work & recording techniques. Participants will cut a CD, destined to be The Kilroy Sessions II.
The workshop will begin in March & last approximately six weeks, culminating in the recording session. It will meet one-day weekly. If your child is interested in participating, please call the office to register them. Space is limited.
The 2nd Annual KPMS Playoff-
Don’t forget The 2nd Annual KPMS Playoff-BEATLEMANIA!
It is an occasion for your child to learn that they can make a difference in the world with their talents, deepen their performacne experience & join a community of children helping children around the world.
While many of you have responded to having your child perform in this extraordinary opportunity, we have not heard from some of you. If your child would like to participate, make adiffernce, & grow as a musician, please contact us as soon as possible.
Each student who participates will perform in an ensemble of 2 or more made up of other students & at least one faculty member. There will be one or two rehearsals involved for all those who perform as well.
Please RSVP to jfishman@kilroyproductions.com by March 31 if your child would like to participate. Your teachers will have information about this event as well.
